Real Sociedad boss, Philippe Montanier, is very disappointed with his side’s exit from the Copa del Rey after their 2-2 draw with the tier-two side, Cordoba.
Sociedad needed to at least win with a three-goal margin at home since their 2-0 loss in the reverse fixture. However, all they could manage was a 2-2 draw against Cordoba.
It was a result that was not enough for them to proceed to the second-round of the competition.
Chants calling for the resignation of Montanier were being heard in the stadium during the match. Regardless, when the Sociedad boss was asked about this fact, he downplayed it and instead tried to keep his concentration on the match.
The Sociedad boss said that he is disappointed with the result and also hurt that his side is out of the competition early in this stage.
“Right now I am hurt by the elimination from the Cup and what you have heard against me is something else. I’m very hurt that we failed to progress.”
Looking back on the match, the Frenchman believes that things were going great for them in the first-half and that everything went against them after the interval. Apart from the problems his side had during the match, it was the second-half goal of Cordoba which killed them off.
“In the first half we were very close at that time to 2-0 and deserving to qualify. In the second half we encountered our problems and they ended up scoring a goal that left us broken.”
Moreover, the tactician has described his team’s performance as a disappointment. Regardless, he hailed the strength shown by his opponents.
“It has been a combination of Cordoba being strong and us being a disappointment.”
Finally, the 48-year-old has concluded his remarks on the note that his team is doing fine in the Primera Division. He is just hoping his players will recover from the loss and get ready for their next encounter with Valencia.
“We are in a good run of form in the League and we will go to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 to win.”
La Real are currently sitting on the 12th position in the Spanish La Liga table standings.
