Real Sociedad boss, Philippe Montanier, is still concerned about his side’s safety despite their unbeaten run in the last five games.
Montanier’s men have been tipped for a place in Europe next season, after their impressive run in the Primera Division. But their boss is not convinced yet and is not letting that idea take precedence over their number one priority, which is to stay away
from the relegation zone.
Montanier mentioned that his side need to secure 55 points for a place in Europe and thinks that is farfetched for them at the moment.
“We know we would need about 55 points, and at the moment we are far from that.”
The Frenchman appreciates his team’s fine form in the Primera Division this season. He knows it is because of this that people are now talking about qualification for Europe.
“But the good dynamic we have gives people hope and trust in us.”
The 48-year-old is wary of his opponents on the weekend. They are facing a team that has been suffering since the start of the season. They are currently rooted in the relegation zone.
Montanier is fully aware that Granada will pose a great threat to his side since they are desperate for a positive result.
“When you play against a team that is going through a bad time and is very motivated, it is difficult. But this is a very important game for both teams.”
“We are aware of their quality, they deserve more points.”
Real Sociedad were criticized for their dismal record on the road earlier in the season. Now they are unbeaten in their last three travels.
The Sociedad tactician revealed that this is exactly what he wanted right from the start. He is now keeping his eyes on the future and is trying to slowly increase the confidence of his team.
“That’s what we wanted from the start, but what’s most important is the future. We have a good level home and away now, and that’s important for our confidence.”
Real Sociedad have now jumped to the top-half of the table. They currently sit on the 9th position with 21 points.
