Real Sociedad coach, Philippe Montanier has come out and blames all those involved for their unexpected 2-0 Copa del Rey loss to Segunda B division outfit, Cordoba.
He feels his players have made life difficult for themselves as they now have to go back home and play the return leg with a two goal disadvantage. Regardless, he is clear about who is to blame for their poor performance in the
match.
He urges everyone to take responsibility and recover from their shock defeat in a collective manner.
“Responsibility for getting beat is everybody’s and we are going to have to recover from it.”
Montanier has also conceded that his team played badly and admitted to how the Copa del Rey is different from other competitions. However, he refrained from pointing out and blaming any individual in the team for their shock loss
to Cordoba.
“The Cup is a different competition and we played a bad match. It’s difficult to highlight any of the players in our squad and I don’t want to talk about individuals.”
Moreover, the French manager also commented on how difficult the second-leg will be for his team but has also said that it is not an impossible task to do. He promised that his team will give their best and will do everything in
their power to overcome their two goals deficit in front of their home fans.
“It’s going to be difficult in the return but not impossible and this was hard for us to take, but we are going to give it everything.”
“Cordoba are a quality side and their goalkeeper also made two or three good saves. As for their second from the penalty spot, I’d like to see the replays because I was far from the action.”
The 47-year-old was also impressed with the performance and attitude shown by the Andalusians who are currently on the ninth position in La Segunda. He also had words of praise for their goalkeeper who according to the French manager
pulled off few outstanding saves during the match.
Real Sociedad will host Espanyol at Anoeta for their next La Liga match on Sunday, November 4.
