Montaser set to appear in John Smith's Silver Cup – Horseracing news
Montaser is looking all set to appear in the John Smith's Silver Cup (Handicap) (Listed Race) at York in England on Saturday, July 13, 2013.
The four-year-old gelding has not participated in a lot of events this season, as his camp has been worried about his fitness. However, he has shown very good signs until now, which will definitely help him get entries in some important competitions towards
the end of the year.
Races at York seem to be the target for Montaser in 2013, as he really enjoys running at this venue. He has run in numerous races at different venues since the start of his career, but he never came to York before this season.
Once the talented stallion made his debut on this ground, he really ended up dominating his rivals. He was given the best odds for victory and finished on top of the table comfortably by one length. Despite being held up in the opening stages of the race,
he came back strongly and made his team proud.
As a result, his trainer David Simcock is really pleased with his form and fitness and he said, “I was delighted with Montaser's last run. It was a good starting point for his season. He is not a horse to run back too quickly and the timings are right from
his last run to Saturday's race.”
He went onto say, “York suits him and he loves fast ground. It looks a competitive race but I would like to think that he can take the step up in his stride.”
Although there are some very good runners attracted towards the Silver Cup, they will not find it easy to challenge someone like Montaser, who has got a very good confidence at the moment. Moreover, the conditions are looking good for him, as the weather
has been completely dry, which has made the track quicker.
If there is no rain over the next couple of days, Simcock’s trainee will definitely be the one to watch out for. Although the organisers will water the track to keep it in good condition, yet that will not make a big difference overall.
