Montauk Highway hopes to win Hunters’ Chase
Montauk Highway holds the highest odds in the betting market for Haygain Hay Steamers Clean Healthy Hay Maiden Hunters’ chase, a high-profile race that is going to take place at Towcester track on Tuesday, April 24.
Despite having just one triumph to his name, the Ms Jackie Williamson-trained bay gelding has gained the confidence of the punters against 8 rivals that include Bellosguardo, Bleuvito, Castle Banquet, Cherry Star, It Was Me, Johnny No Cash, Lead It Well
and The Nuns Legacy.
The Class 6 contest over a distance of 2 miles, 3 furlongs and 110 yards will commence at 7:25 (GMT) today. The prize purse contains a meagre amount worth £988.
Montauk Highway has an advantage over his competitors that he has participated in at least three races since the dawn of 2012. On the contrary, none of the other runners has so many fresh outings to his/her name.
The nine-year-old veteran horse has been enjoying great form since the beginning of the calendar year. After getting a couple of thirds each on March 3 and April 2, the brilliant sprinter elegantly grabbed a runner-up spot in his last start on April 13.
Overall, he has run for 10 times to date since making his debut in October 2008. He broke his maiden on November 29, 2008.
Montauk Highway’s chances to finish first in the Chase are more than 80 percent provided he manages to take an early lead after the break call.
It Was Me and Lead It Well are too likely to perform well in the race.
It Was Me earned a coupled of consecutive runner-up positions during April 2011. Prior to this, the N. R. W. Wright-trained and owned bay gelding had finished 5th and 3rd in two back-to-back races during January-February 2011.
Lead It Well led the betting market in his second last outing on March 28, 2009 and finished first. The trainee of Miss M. Tomlinson had registered another classic victory on March 14. Since his last start in April 2009, the Irish horse has been out of action.
Come what may, Montauk Highway in standing in the most favourable position to claim the Chase title. However, he will have to face a few challenges in his way towards success.
