I am an LI resident and people are talking about this thing non-stop.

OK....

google montauk monster, have you seen the pic yet?

at first glance, the creature looks very strange, then I was reading some theories and came across the theory of a raccoon

I then googled raccoon skull----pretty similar to the "monster"

it also has similar legs and claws of a raccoon

oh, and the other theory of a sea turtle without the shell---umm, sea turtles have flippers, not legs

what do you think it is?? or comment if you have any new info on it

Thanks.

  1. This creature is called a monesirius quacillis. Its a combination of a rat and a basilisk (Basiliscus species). It is not a common creature and is considered almost extinct. I wouldn't be surprised seeing this in Brazil or Mexico. But seeing it in New York left me wondering what in the world is it doing in there? I can only surmise that it is being experimented and it escaped. This breed cannot surive the City environment for long and it will seek for locations with water. However it does not strive with salt water. Thats probably what killed it, forcing to take in salt water out of dehydration. These aninmals cannot survive without fresh water for 12 hours. Thats the only explanation why it is seen near the shore.

  2. It doesn't look like any raccoon that I've ever seen.Maybe it's something that escaped from the Animal Disease Research Center on Plum Island?Definitely a monster!

  3. I still vote that it looks way more like a pig.

A raccoon is furry, not rubbery like that.

A raccoon does not have hooves! They look like pig trotters to me.

  4. i vote raccoon

  5. I thought it was a turtle, but I guess you're right about the flippers... My guess is that it's a dog.

Anyway, whatever it is, it isn't a monster. It's either viral marketing or some sort of joke. I read somewhere that the group of people who found were not first on the beach that day, so pretty much anyone could have left an animal carcass on the shore.
