Montepaschi Siena, Unics Kazan and Olympiacos win: Euroleague Basketball October 27 Review – Part 1
Seven games took place in Turkish Airlines Euroleague on Thursday, October 27, 2011. Here is a brief review of these games:
Montepaschi Siena 79 - Union Olimpija 57
Montepaschi Siena won their second consecutive game of the 2011-12 Turkish Airlines Euroleague season with an impressive 79-57 victory over Union Olimpija in Siena’s Palestra Arena. With this defeat, Olimpija dropped to 0-2 in
Group D.
Bo McCalebb added a game-high 17 points on a perfect 7 for 7 shooting from two-point range and had three steals. Ksistof Lavrinovic scored 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds and stole the ball three times while Rimantas Kaukenas
ended with 11 points. David Moss racked up 10 points for Montepaschi.
Davis Bertans led Olimpija with 12 points on 2 for 4 shooting from three-point range while Robert Rothbart and Ratko Varda posted seven points each.
Montepaschi got off to one of their best starts and outscored the visiting team 26-4 in the very first quarter of the game. Olimpija made a marginal comeback in the second period, limiting Siena to 12 points and trimmed their deficit
to nine-point, 38-29, at halftime.
"We started really badly, and despite a great comeback before the break, we were not able to overtake Siena,” We are a very young team and we need more experience to try and do well against teams like Montepaschi.” Olimpija Head
Coach Saso Filipovski said.
Siena stretched their lead back to double-digit early in the second half and carried a 21-point lead into the fourth. Olimpija did not get any closer than 17 points in the last period as Montepaschi walked away with another easy
victory.
Unics Kazan 68 - Galatasaray Medical Park 64
Unics Kazan made a sensational rally in the fourth quarter and edged past Galatasaray Medical Park 68-64 for their first ever Euroleague win.
Henry Domercant led Kazan with a game-high 16 points, including 12 points in the crucial last quarter. Domercant also grabbed four rebounds in more than 26 minutes of action. Lynn Greer also had 12 points, four assists and two
steals in the victory.
Luksa Andric led Medical Park with 14 points and seven rebounds while Joshua Shipp added 11 points and grabbed three rebounds. Darius Songaila totalled 10 points and four rebounds in the loss.
Shipp scored nine points in the first quarter as Galatasaray held a 21-12 lead after 10 minutes. Unics made a steady recovery in the second quarter and cut the deficit to five (50-45) as the teams headed for the final frame.
