Montepaschi Siena humiliate GS Medical Park 103-77: Euroleague Recap
Montepaschi Siena claimed their third consecutive win in the 2011 Turkish Airlines Euroleague by thrashing GS Medical Park 103-77 in what was a completely one sided affair.
Siena are now placed at the top of group D and will be facing Spanish giants FC Barcelona Regal in their next outing.
It was a thoroughly clinical performance by Sienna with all the major players contributing. Rimantas Kaukenas led the winning team with 24 points, shooting 6 for 6 from free throw line and knocking 6 for 7 from the field. Bo McCalebb
was also outstanding and sealed 19 points along with 4 assists. David Anderson chipped in with 13 while Pietro Aradori also added 11.
Sienna were brilliant with three-pointers and free throws. They shot 10 for 18 from the downtown and an outstanding 25 for 28 from free throw line. Out of the three games they have played so far in the league, this was easily their
best performance.
As their coach also affirmed;
"I’m happy. We played the best game of this year. The team showed great attention to different choices, so congratulations to my players for their engagement. We showed quality on both sides of the court against a team that plays
well."
Medical Park players struggled to score throughout the game. Luksa Andric, the highest scorer from the side ended with 12 while Ender Arsalan added 11 points. Joshua Shipp narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Other then these three, no other player threatened Sienna.
Anderson and Rimantas initiated Siena’s onslaught by scoring two points each in the first two minutes of the game. Siena managed to keep Park quiet in the first half of the initial quarter, only allowing them 5 points. By the end
of the quarter, they were dictating the terms with a lead of 30-16.
Luksa scored twice at the start of second quarter to slash Park’s deficit to 11 points and the team maintained a solid defense to hold Siena to only 10 points in the first eight minutes of the quarter. However a three pointer by
Rimantas in the second last minute of quarter ended the drought for Siena and the lead that had deteriorated significantly, started to climb again. Bo McCalebb scored from downtown in the dying seconds of the quarter and ensured that Siena entered the second
half with a 50-37 lead.
Two consecutive three-pointers at the start of third quarter by David Moss sealed it for Siena as the lead reached 22 points. Park never managed to reduce the lead and by the end of quarter they found themselves trailing behind
76-54.
Although Park did score 23 points in the last quarter, but the deficit that had mounted in the previous frame, never allowed them to come even near and the game finally ended with Siena winning it 103-77.
