Monterosso and Bold Silvano joint favourites for Al Maktoum Challenge R3 Sponsored by Emirates
Monterosso and Bold Silvano are likely to battle out for victory in the Al Maktoum Challenge R3 Sponsored by Emirates at Meydan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday, March 10, 2012. The winner of the event will be granted with cash prize of £154,839.
The track conditions are expected to be standard and the runners will have to cover a distance of 1 mile 2 furlong. A total of 17 entries were initially lined up for the race and their names are: Bold Silvano, Monterosso, Green Destiny, Mendip, Prince Bishop,
Silver Pond, Fly Down, Haatheq, Capponi, Irish Flame, Al Shemali, Richard´s Kid, Treble Jig, Jamr, Spring Of Fame and Submariner.
However, only 14 of the above mentioned horses will be seen in action, as Jamr, Spring Of Fame and Submariner have been ruled out of the race.
Mahmood Al Zarooni’s trainee, Monterosso, has been given very good odds for the race, as he is in good form at the moment. He has taken 13 starts in his career until now, winning six of them. Other than that, he has got a couple of runner up positions and
one third place finish to his name as well.
The five-year-old horse seems to like the conditions at Meydan, as he has performed well in a couple of races at this venue. His debut appearance here saw him winning comfortably, but he had to settle for third in his most recent outing.
Despite that, the punters will have a lot of confidence in the abilities of today’s favourite, who will be partnered by Mickael Barzalona. He is the same jockey, who guided Monterosso to his maiden victory at Meydan.
Bold Silvano trained by M. F. De Kock is also expected to do well in the race, as he appears to be in good rhythm. He also has one victory at Meydan, but his most recent outing at the venue did not prove to be an impressive one. He will be ridden by Christophe
Soumillon.
Frankie Dettori will once again be in action, as he will be riding Prince Bishop, trained by Saeed Bin Suroor. The veteran jockey will be looking forward to a solid show yet again.
There are some other good runners taking part in the event, but the three mentioned above have the best chances of winning.
