  1. I was a Montessori teacher for 5 years.  I taught 3 to 6 year olds.  It is an absolutely wonderful curriculum.  Please take the time to educate yourself on Montessori and the follow the child philosophy.  Each child in the classroom has their own individual work to complete.  They use contract work to practice and reinforce new skills.  Your child's teacher will explain their contract work if you ask.  My son attended the same Montessori school that I taught.  He is very artistic (I'm not bragging—BUT THE KID IS GOOD!!!!!).  It allowed him the opportunity to learn about well know painters and listen to different types of music which fed his creative side.  During work times, my students would listen to classical music.  After a while the students knew Mozart from Beethoven.  There are a lot of great books out there as well.  If possible, visit a Montessori school in your area.  Call ahead and ask if there is someone that can give you a tour.  I’m pretty sure someone will be able to accommodate you.

  2. I just posted a 20 page paper online about Montessori, but it's broken up into 6 blogs, since it was too large to fit into one blog.

It covers what Montessori is and why it works.

  3. my husband is a teacher at a montessori school and i think they are great.  i work for a public school system.  montessori's way of teaching is very hands on, which is great.

  4. My 5 1/2 year old son has been in Montessori since he was 2 1/2. I absoultely love it. He has really excelled in his learning thru the Montessori method.  I like that he was able to work at his own pace and gets lots of one on one from the teacher. Also a plus is being in class with sevreal diffenrt ages.  The youngers learns from the elders and the elders get to act as mentors.

But I do have to admit it is not for every child. If your child has any behavior problmes or needs lots of direction then this is not the program for him/her. My 2nd child  is very focused and self-motivated. However my first child need alot more structure and discipline so this program did not work out for him.

  5. I am a Montessori Teacher and here is what I found during my work.

For preschoolers- I think that this is a wonderful way for children to learn because it is all hands on and concrete materials.

The mixed age classrooms also help because they young children watch and follow the older kids. So if an older child is reading the younger one might want to be just like them and get that drive to do it.

The math and language program is great. I have kids that are reading at a great level at age 4 and doing 4 digit math problems at 4.5. The math problems are 4 digits long and the go from addition static to addition dynamic- multiplication static multiplication dynamic- subtraction static to subtraction dynamic and then division.

It is just a great overall education for children before primary schools.
