Montgomerie involved in car accident near Glasgow
The accident
Scottish authorities say that golfer Colin Montgomerie was involved in a car accident earlier today near Glasgow. The Associated Press has reported that the injuries are only minor and did not demand any sort of hospitalization.
The accident involved two cars, a van and a truck but luckily all those affected sustained only minor injuries. The Scottish Ambulance Services spoke of the event detailing that, “no one required hospitalization,” and that, “there were minor and superficial
injuries.”
A spokeswoman for the local police reiterated the ambulance services’ comments saying the “police received a report of a crash on the A80 at Moodiesburn at around 1130GMT today (Thursday). It does not look as though anyone is seriously injured."
Montgomerie was the captain of the most recent European Ryder Cup team which was victorious over the United States a few weeks ago at Celtic Manor. Since this event Montgomerie has returned to playing competitive golf. His most recent event was a tie for
41st at the Dunhill Links Championship played in his native Scotland.
Change in plans?
Montgomerie is in the midst of promoting his charitable foundation this week and wrote on his website the day before the accident that, “this week I am taking part in the first leg of a charity walk for The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation.” It remains unknown
whether the accident will have any effect on his plans to participate in the event and there is also ambiguity surrounding his schedule for the rest of the year in light of the recent event.
Even if Montgomerie did not sustain any major injuries the accident was serious enough that some vehicles were rendered immobile and needed the firefighting service to clear the vehicles from the carriageway.
Montgomerie wrote on his website before the accident of his plans saying, “next week I’m off to China playing the Mission Hill Star Trophy followed by some corporate days in Shanghai, Tokyo and Melbourne.”
The Mission Hill Star Trophy is set to take place next week and is a major event pro-am event. The tournament boasts the largest individual prize purse for the Asia Pacific region at $1.28m.
