i bought some small mealworms today and fed them to my leopard gecko. i bought my leo a little over a month ago as a baby, so he's still young. is it bad i gave him mealworms? and should i not give it to him again until he's older? because i heard they can eat their way out of his insides, but im not sure if this is true or just a rumor, especially for the small ones i gave him.

  1. Its just a myth that mealworms eat their way out of animals stomachs, so no need to worry about that.

However feeding mealworms too big can run the risk of impaction for the gecko - its best to feed extra small ones, and ones that have 'moulted' so they are alot softer ( they will be lighter in colour ).

Crickets are always the best staple insects, mealworms should only be fed occasionally.

    Hope this helps!

  2. its an old wives tale i read that too and then i read that you should cut the head off a mealworm so i did more research on this fake story and i read that this is not true and if i had to cut the heads off id be cutting about 35 a week so you shouldn't listen to them. the gecko eats them alive but that doesn't mean its still alive in the stomach so its perfectly safe to feed mealworms or anything that geckos can eat that have teeth

  3. that is a myth its impossible for the worms to do that as they are dead as the gecko eats it and just kep feeding it mealworms as long as there small

  4. I have a leopard gecko that is around 2 months old, and I have yet to feed him mealworms, because I've heard they get addicted to them due to an acid that is found only in mealworms. You should regularly feed your crickets to ensure your gecko gets the right nutrients. You can buy pellets for the crickets that contain calcium, or you can just feed them a piece of lettuce, which also supplies them with water. Etiher way, your crickets will be in a good condition and you won't ever have to feed your gecko anything else.
