Now, I'm no city boy but I've been told that the "moo" of a cow isn't it's real name. So, if a cow doesn't "moo", what does it do?

No, I can't.  But I'd suggest that you call up a good university library in your spare minutes and see if they can look it up or research it for you.  I did this on a conversational whim several years ago for the word "whippersnapper" and found out some interesting things.    :o)
