The Fiorentina midfielder has revealed that Juventus and A.C Milan are interested in him; expects to end up at San Siro after his contract expires in summer.
Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo has revealed that A.C Milan are leading the race for his signature.
The midfielder’s contract with La Viola is set to expire at the end of the ongoing season, and he is being linked with a move to several top European clubs including the Italian giants and Manchester United.
The Italian international was heavily linked with a move to San Siro in the summer transfer window, but the two clubs could not agree on a fee. After Gli Azzurri’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of USA, the midfielder vaguely commented
on his future at Stadio Artemio Franchi.
While talking to the Calciomercato. It, the Fiorentina player said:
“My name has been linked to many clubs. There are several possibilities between these [sides] and there is also AC Milan. But now is the time to be thinking about Fiorentina.”
La Viola dearly want the playmaker to stay at the club, and they are still hopeful that he will sign an extension. The Gigliati have just a four-point cushion between them and the relegation zone.
Montolivo has urged his team to pull up their socks, and insists that they can avoid relegation, as the situation is not unfamiliar for the club:
"It's a situation to which we are accustomed and we will just have to grit our teeth," he declared.
The 27-year-old has made over 209 league appearances for the Tuscan side since his transfer from Atalanta in 2005.
While the statement has done little to quell the speculation about the player’s future, it is apparent that the midfielder has his eyes set on a move away from Fiorentina.
With Juventus also in the race to sign the midfielder, Montolivo will have a tough choice to choose his future destination. The race to sign the player is similar to the fight for the Scudetto between the two sides, and only the
end of the season will choose the winner.
