Reigning Ligue 1 champions Montpellier Herault know that for them, holding on to star striker Olivier Giroud is nothing less than mission impossible. La Paillade coach Rene Girard has repeatedly said that the striker is close to joining English Premier League
side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 FC.
The Gunners have been keeping tabs on the 25-year-old for quite a while and Montpellier know that they are in dire need to find a good replacement as soon as possible.
According to L’Equipe, the club’s plight has led them to making a move for young French striker Gaëtan Charbonnier, who was perhaps one of the biggest stars in the recently-concluded Ligue 2 campaign.
The 23-year-old striker was one of the reasons behind Angers’ nearly successful Ligue 2 campaign. In his third full season for Les Scoistes, Charbonnier scored 12 league goals and impressed everyone with his performances.
The youngster joined Angers from Paris Saint-Germain in 2009 in order to get more game time. And now, it appears that Charbonnier is ready to make the next move in his playing career.
Reports claim that the 23-year-old may already have agreed to a four-year contract with Montpellier who are set to offer Angers 1.5 million euros for the talented striker’s services.
The arrival of the young talent echoes to that of Olivier Giroud back in 2010. Following to prolific seasons with Tours, Giroud joined Montpellier Herault in 2010. Last campaign, Olivier Giroud was an integral part of a Montpellier side that won its first
Ligue 1 Championelle.
Now, it falls on Charbonnier to meet the expectations of his new club (though an official statement is yet to be made by both parties). With a solid frame reminiscent to Giroud, young Charbonnier has all the talent in the world to fill the France international’s
boots.
Though he has not said much about his future, it is highly likely that Giroud will leave Montpellier after the Euro 2012 ends.
For Charbonnier on the other hand, a move to the Mosson will be a huge step as he will also be playing in the Champions League next season if he chooses to join Younes Belhanda and co.
