Montpellier Herault president Louis Nicollin confirms interest in Andre-Pierre Gignac – Ligue 1 news
During an interview with French sports daily L’Equipe, Montpellier Herault president Louis Nicollin discussed the upcoming winter transfer window and admitted his interest in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 striker Andre-Pierre Gignac.
After a win on Saturday evening against Sochaux (3-1) at the Stade Auguste Bonal, La Paillade are on top of the Ligue 1 standings. With things going their way so far this season, Nicollin is in great spirits and openly discussed his targets in the transfer
window.
“Ultimately we will take Gignac. If he comes to Montpellier for six months, we will have another international player in our squad. I know his father, he is my friend. He (Gignac) is going through a tough period and needs a club like ours , but his salary
is too much. He drives a Maserati so I will have to be careful,” said Nicollin.
Gignac recently had a clash with Marseille coach Didier Deschamps and it seems that the former Toulouse man’s career at the Rhone club is coming to an end. Since his big money move in the summer of 2010, Gignac has failed to make an impression and a move
away from the Stade Velodrome would certainly help the player in resurrecting his career.
While talking about the future of Younes Belhanda, Nicollin said that he is going to do everything he can in order to hold on to the exciting playmaker. The Moroccan international has made a great start to the new campaign and reports suggest that Paris
Saint-Germain are willing to splash the cash for the services of the attacking midfielder.
Nicollin said that he wants to keep Belhanda for at least one more year because he feels that the youngster still needs to develop before making a big move. Furthermore, Nicollin revealed that none of his players have shown their desire to leave the club.
Currently, Montpellier lead the Ligue 1 standings with 33 points from 15 games and lead Paris Saint-Germain by 3 points. PSG will play Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Velodrome in this season’s first Clasico and Montpellier would be hoping that the Parisian
club drops points which would give Montpellier a great chance to extend their lead at the top of the table.
