In a search for finding a replacement for the departing France international, the Ligue 1 leaders are keeping close tabs on a young striker in Ligue 2

This season, Olivier Giroud has been in the form of his life. The 25-year-old striker has scored 21 goals in Ligue 1 this season and has been instrumental in Montpellier Herault’s rise to a Ligue 1 contender. However, La Paillade may not be able to keep
hold of the striker this summer.
Reports claim that Bayern Munich are in hot pursuit of the striker which means that Montpellier will have to look for a new striker come the Mercato.
According to Ouest-http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899, coach Rene Girard is keeping a close eye on the progress of young striker Gaëtan Charbonnier. The 23-year-old is currently under contract at Ligue 2 side Angers where he has scored 12 goals and has provided four assists.
After starting out his club football with Paris Saint-Germain B, the striker was snapped up by Angers for whom, he has become an integral part of the starting XI.
Though he is less prolific than Olivier Giroud, Charbonnier’s age is by his side and he can certainly fit into the core of the team.
The Frenchman was also spotted at the Mosson this Sunday in the game between Montpellier and Lille which the home side won 1-0 to get one step closer to winning their first Ligue 1 crown.
However, if Montpellier are really interested in signing the striker, President, Louis Nicollin, will have to speed things up as the SCO Angers striker is attracting considerable interest from a host of Ligue 1 and European sides.
Fellow French outfits, AS Saint-Etienne, AS Monaco, OGC Nice and Stade Brestois are among the teams interested in Charbonnier. Italian Serie A side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Udinese-Calcio-c40789 and Belgian Jupiler League giants Standard Liege have also been following the striker for quite
some time.
Charbonnier initially started out as a young hopeful for SO Chatellerault before joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2008. However, after spending just one season with the capital club’s B side, he left for SCO Angers for whom he has now scored 31 goals in 102
games.
