Montreal Canadiens' General Manager Marc Bergevin makes final adjustments -NHL Update
Montreal Canadiens newly appointed general manager, Marc Bergevin, continued to stay active and it seems like he made the final few adjustments to the franchises front office by appointing Martin Lapointe as the new director of player development and Patrice
Brisebois as acting player development coach.
Bergevin has been making his presence felt by initiating deals from all around the league to insure that the Montreal Canadiens go in strong to the 2012-2013 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
The announcement was made by the team on Wednesday, June 13, 2012.
"The trick is to surround yourself with people who are smarter than you," Bergevin said. "Then you look smart by association. That's what I'm doing. These are all quality guys with a lot of hockey experience. They've each won a Stanley Cup. Players can relate
to them, build relationships with them and create a team dynamic. For them, the team always comes first."
Bergevin also appointed Sylvain Lefebvre as the new head coach of Montreal Canadiens affiliate team in the American Hockey League (AHL), the Hamilton Bulldogs.
For the GM, the new appointees that consist of Rick Dudley as assistant GM, Scott Mellanby as director of player personnel, Michel Therrien as new head coach of the Canadiens and his most recent appointments, all need to work towards a mutual goal.
"If I'm bringing in all these people, they're not window dressing," Bergevin said. "I obviously believe these people have something to offer."
Since the Montreal Canadiens have a number of young players and hiring people to address that situation properly is the need of the hour. According to Bergevin, young players do not always know how to approach the major league, which is why giving them adequate
time and training moulds them into high flyers.
Each and every member of the Canadiens organisation will have a role to fit into and play out with everything they have got. Next season will be a standard setting one for Bergevin as all the responsibility has been put on his shoulders following a failed
hockey year.
Both Lapointe and Lefebvre are former hockey players and should fit into their roles pretty easily.
