Montreal Canadiens Andrei Markov hopes to start season with team -NHL News Update
The 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season is closer than ever and fans are finding it hard to control the hockey madness, but for Montreal Canadiens defenseman, Andrei Markov, starting off the season next month is still something he is unsure
about.
For the veteran defenseman, having spent 10 seasons in the major league with Montreal, seem to be all that he might be able to play since has been nearly 16 months now since tearing his ACL in his right knee and missing the entire last season besides a mere
seven-game performance.
"I wish I could skate with the team tomorrow or today, but I want to be 100 percent sure I'm healthy", Markov said on Friday, a day before training camp kicks off. "I don't want to come back for a few games. I'd like to stay here for the long term, and that's
what we're looking for".
Montreal as a team is nearly complete as a number of its injured players get ready to make a comeback including, Max Pacioretty, Josh Gorges, and Lars Eller, which makes it even tougher on Markov.
Going out during round-one of Montreal’s 2010 playoff appearance and missing nearly the whole 2010-2011 season, rumours about Markov preparing to announce his retirement soon flew throughout the league, which had the 32-year-old scrambling to clear the buzz.
"I'm trying to stay positive", Markov said. "I wish I could play tomorrow. It's not going to happen tomorrow, but it's going to happen one day. I'm excited about the new season and I want to enjoy our team and practice with them as soon as possible".
Being a 50 plus point contributor, Markov is without a doubt, one of Montreal’s most valuable defenders and having him on the line-up is a priority for them.
For the Canadian franchise, it is just a matter of time until they get their experienced defenseman back on the team and kick off the new regular season with a bang.
With a renewed line-up and an unmatched vision, Montreal prepares to turnaround their reputation next season and show the league what unleashing potential really means.
