Montreal Canadiens Blake Geoffrion in Stable Condition after Critical Surgery -NHL Update
It was a very scary moment for everyone when Blake Geoffrion was taken out of the Hamilton Bulldogs American Hockey League (AHL) matchup due to a skull fracture, which occurred during the first period, but fortunately now, the player is in stable condition.
Geoffrion underwent surgery Friday night was moved to the intensive care unit at a local Montreal hospital, but is now reported to have been taken out of it due to his improving condition. The Montreal Canadiens medical staff is constantly reviewing the
player’s condition and are expecting a full recovery by the youngster.
The 24-year-old is a centre player for the Montreal Canadiens, who was picked up as the 56th overall back in round two of the 2006 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators. He has a total of two seasons under his belt,
with the second 2011-2012 season being split almost equally between the Nashville Predators and Montreal Canadiens.
In a total of 55 games played throughout his career thus far, the Plantation, Florida, native has 13 points, of which eight are goals and five assists, along with 34 minutes in penalty time. He is yet to have a breakthrough season in the North American major
league and Montreal is hoping that he will get through to continue playing without facing any issues later on.
The Bulldogs, which are an affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens in the minor league, were playing against the Syracuse Crunch. He was checked, legally, by an opposing defenseman, Jean-Philippe Côté, and dropped down to the ice almost immediately.
"He is out indefinitely, and the medical staff is expecting a complete recovery from his injury," the brief statement by the Montreal Canadiens franchise read.
Amazingly, the young forward was able to carry his own weight off the ice and into the dressing room and obviously was not able to make a return to the intense matchup between the two skilled AHL teams.
Blake Geoffrion is under contract with the Montreal Canadiens, which lasts through the 2012-2013 NHL regular season and will make him a restricted free agent by the time it comes to an end.
