Montreal Canadiens’ Max Pacioretty discharged, Washington Capitals’ Eric Fehr ready to Play –NHL Update
Two players, Max Pacioretty and Eric Fehr, who succumbed to some gruesome injuries during a game, are now finally out of harm’s way and fully recovering. It’s certainly good news for their franchises and fans who expect them to play before the start of the
playoffs.
Eric Fehr
The right wing for Washington Capitals has had a history of shoulder related problems, spending the summer before last season, seriously incapable of performing any tasks, having had surgeries on both shoulders.
It was this season in January that he collided with teammate, David Steckel, causing his shoulder to dislocate, making him miss two months now instead of an expected 2-3 weeks, 22 games which equal nearly a quarter of a season.
"I knew it wasn't great. I was worried about it", Eric Fehr said. "It took a lot longer to come back than I expected, but I am back playing and I am hoping that problem is behind me and I can just continue playing".
He couldn’t imagine it happening to him since such accidents are not common in the NHL. It wasn’t the first hit he’d taken during play.
Fehr returned last Wednesday to play against Edmonton Oilers and scored a couple of goals, making it 10 this season which is nothing compared to his career best of 21 goals last season before the injury.
Washington is on a roll as it comes close to the playoffs. They stand at second place in the Eastern Conference with seven straight wins.
If they get their two offensive weapons of mass destruction back, namely, Mike Green and Nikclas Backstrom, there’s a high chance that they could be one of the top contenders for the Stanley Cup this playoffs.
Max Pacioretty
The forward for Montreal Canadiens, Max Pacioretty, after taking a hit from Boston’s captain, Zdeno Chara, into the glass post face first in their last matchup, fell down on the ice and lied motionless.
It was a heart stopping moment for everyone watching. Medical staff rushed to the scene as Max remained unconscious, taking him out on a stretcher. It was later discovered that he suffered a severe concussion and a non-displaced fracture of the fourth cervical
vertebra in his neck.
Fortunately it was not as worse as it could have been due to the extra padding.
After spending two days in the hospital, Max was finally, to everyone’s relief, discharged and is presently on his way to recovery.
Montreal Canadiens announced on Friday, via their official twitter page, that Max has been released on Thursday from the Montreal General Hospital and that he has created his own twitter page to thank all those who have supported him in this time of need.
Over 13,000 followers subscribed to his page by Friday afternoon, less than a day after it was made.
NHL officials pardoned Zdeno Chara on accounts of him hitting Pacioretty in a bad and unfair manner after thorough review of the incident.
After the statement by the NHL Commissioner, Chara was relieved that he had not been suspended and termed the incident an accident that could have happened to anyone.
Only time will tell when the 22-year old American will be able to play for Montreal again as fans along with his team are eager for his return.
