Montreal Canadiens agree on terms with Hal Gill to keep him in the team for another year – NHL Updates
After many speculations and negotiations between the two parties, it has finally been revealed that Hal Gill will be staying with Montreal Canadiens.
The team got hold of the player for another year, signing him this Wednesday, June 1st, for the upcoming year. The contract is worth $2.25 million and the player’s salary has been decided as the same he was getting in the past two seasons.
Gill is one of the most productive players in the Canadiens side and was all set to be included in the unrestricted agents list this July.
He was regularly seen in the Canadiens’ team during the regular season, playing 75 games during the regular season.
He scored two goals while bagging a total of seven assists and his average time on ice was almost 20 minutes per game.
He was among the best defensemen in the team as he made 151 blocks, second in the list of players in the team to come up with the most blocks.
Canadiens came up with a decent performance in the first two games of the play-offs but lost the series in the seventh game against Boston Bruins.
Gill consistently appeared in the postseason as well, once again bagging a little over 23 minutes per game in the play-offs.
Gill has seen immense success and before making his way into Canadiens, he was with the Pittsburgh Penguins’ team that won the Stanley Cup in 2009.
"Hall Gill has played a key role since he joined our team two years ago", Canadiens’ General Manager, Pierre Gauthier, said in a press release. "He brings leadership and determination on and off the ice, two very important components to the success of our
group. He is an experienced veteran and his contribution to the development of our young players is extremely valuable".
Canadiens will still be looking at five other free agents and the decision regarding them will be announced soon.
