Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K Subban visits earthquake devastated Haiti and gets shocked by the conditions there

P.K Subban recently became a highlighted player in the National Hockey League (NHL) during his amazing first full regular season with Montreal Canadiens, and finally received much due consideration.
The 22-year-old took a three-day visit to Haiti, a country recently devastated by an earthquake, and was shocked to see what he found.
"I've never been to a poor country, I've never even been anywhere in the Caribbean, so this is a pretty different experience", Subban said in an interview this week about his recent trip to the shattered country. "I don't know if it changes you, but it definitely
affects you as a person".
The 43rd pick overall in round-two of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by Montreal, made a big impact on their line-up last season including the playoffs.
Subban registered career high stats as he scored 38 points (14 goals, 24 assists) in 77 games while boasting a four point record (2 goals, 2 assists) in their seven-game run in the playoffs which was cut short by Boston Bruins in round-one.
The Toronto, Ontario, Canada native, and former NHL player Georges Laraque spent their time in Haiti’s Grace Children’s Hospital in Port-au-Prince, meeting patients and families which were affected by the devastating earthquake of January 12, 2010.
A 7.0 magnitude earthquake had hit Haiti early in the morning and took the lives of an estimated 300,000 people along with destroying the homes of another one million.
The hospital they went to visit was also battered up and nearly destroyed.
"There's not much left of the old one — the roof has collapsed", said Subban, who was due to return on Thursday night but remained over schedule. "They are still running some medical facilities on that side of the street, but they're not operating facilities”.
The visit comes part of a joint effort by the NHL Players’ Association and Word Vision, which is a Christian relief organisation, called the Hockey for Haiti.
Until now, more than $1.3 million has been raised to build an immediate replacement of the current Grace Hospital, and a more permanent facility when the funds are available.
