Montreal Canadiens end month with second straight over Boston Bruins 4-2 -NHL Match Update
Montreal and Boston have a long history of rivalry throughout the tenure they have been a part of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Canadiens dominated the Bruins for the second straight time, gaining their third victory in a row, 4-2, on Saturday night,
October 29, 2011, at the sold-out Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Coming out as the 2011 Stanley Cup winners, Boston Bruins have certainly not impressed thus far in the 2011-2012 regular season, especially when facing their arch rivals, the Canadiens.
Montreal goalie, Carey Price, once again showed why he is one of the best goaltenders in the league by making 26 crucial saves that were ultimately the key in the Canadiens victory over Boston.
"I think our guys are pretty confident again", Price said. "I think that's all it took was just a couple of wins. Now the guys are all excited to go to the rink again. When you're losing, it's not fun. Everything's gloom and doom so winning solves everything".
Since having started off the season in a disappointing way and recently firing their assistant coach, Montreal’s head coach, Jacques Martin, acknowledges that his team is certainly on the right path.
"We've made a little progress", Martin said. "There's still a lot of work to be done, but it's encouraging to have gone out and picked up six of eight points this week".
Brian Gionta and Lars Eller scored the first two to put Montreal ahead within a minute of each other, the first being on their opening power play opportunity as Boston’s Johnny Boychuk was penalised for holding.
David Desharnais added another for the Canadiens on another power play by the Bruins, but it was Andrew Ference this time who was booked for roughing and awarded a two-minute minor.
Milan Lucic finally put Boston on the board with less than four minutes left to play while Tyler Seguin added his fourth of the season at the 19:05 mark, giving Boston 55 seconds to level the match and force overtime.
Tomas Plekanec made a breakaway and scored the insuring goal unassisted with 12 seconds left to go, sending the 21,000 plus crowd into a wild roar of joy for their third straight victory.
Montreal will play their next match against the Ottawa Senators during a two-game road trip on Friday while the Bruins return home to face the Senators on Tuesday.
