Montreal Canadiens gets big win against Boston Bruins avenging the loss of Max Pacioretty
Montreal Candiens is now certainly looking like a team that once was the greatest in the NHL, in the city hockey was born. Canadiens overthrew Boston Bruins by 4-1 at the Bell Center in Montreal, Quebec, getting a huge win on Tuesday night while avenging
teammate, Max Pacioretty, who went down hard, late in the second period and was carried out on a stretcher.
The victory was more of a moment to honour Pacioretty than to rejoice knowing that he was hospitalised after being checked into the glass, face first, by Zdeno Chara.
21,273 fans sat silent as paramedics took him away after he lied motionless for quite a few minutes, but roared in approval after hearing about him being alright at the start of the third period and named as the third star of the match.
"I knew we were somewhere close to our bench, but obviously that wasn't my intention to push him to the post", Chara said, who was given a five-minute major for interference and a game misconduct. "It's very unfortunate and in that situation with everything
you have to think fast. You're not planning to do that or that's not my style to hurt somebody. I always play hard and play physical but I never try to hurt anybody so I'm hoping he's OK".
Carey Price played extremely well for Montreal, almost shutting out Boston with 30 deflections, including killing off a penalty shot by Brad Marchand early in the final.
Price and Boston’s main goalie, Tim Thomas, are tied for second place for most shutouts this season with seven each.
Canadiens dominated the first 40 minutes. Lars Eller scored two goals both in the first period nearly nine minutes apart with double assists from Travis Moen, taking an early lead.
Brian Gionta and James Wisniewski both capitalized on a power-play opportunity extending Montreal’s lead to four-nil.
Bruins, second in the Eastern Conference, was facing a tough time not able to get anything through Price while the opposition already had four on Tuukka Rask who’d been performing extremely well in the past eight games with a perfect win record in Bruins’
six-game road trip.
Star player for the Bruins, Milan Lucic, was able to get the first for Bruins late in the final period with less than seven minutes remaining. They couldn’t penetrate any further after that.
Montreal’s on a five-game winning streak, with a perfect three-game road trip and high scoring averages in each game, ranging from three to four goals in each matchup.
They go on to face St. Louis on Thursday which shouldn’t be much of a challenge for them.
Boston has lost two in a row now, coming out of a seven-game winning streak and is now tied with Washington for second in the conference.
It will face Buffalo Sabres on Thursday at home following its take off on another four-game road trip.
