Montreal Canadiens’ left winger Rene Bourque to stay out for 8-12 weeks after surgery
Rene Bourque, a Canadian professional ice hockey player, who plays for Montreal Canadiens in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League, has been sidelined for 8-12 weeks after a surgery.
The surgery has been done to repair a tear in the abdominal wall of Bourque, which he had suffered in the training during off-season.
This is going to be a set back for Canadiens as Lac La Biche, Alberta resident was expected to play a major role for them, after they traded him on 12th January at the start of this. He was brought from Calgary Flames in exchange of Michael
Cammalleri.
Marc Bergevin, the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens had clarified this summer that even because of his not so impressive performance with the Calgary Flames, he would not rule out the chances of him playing for them. He also mentioned his
good performance two seasons ago as he said,
"He scored 27 goals two years ago. I know he had an off year, but I'm not ready to write him off."
Bergevin was very much hopeful that Bourque would be back in form and would start scoring goals for them but now he will have to wait atleast 2-3 months for his comeback and then the extra time he takes to come back into form.
Last year was not a very successful one for 30-year-old forward as he scored just 18 goals, 6 assists and 24 total points in 76 games but his past record suggests that he is not as bad as he was last year.
He has had two 50 plus point seasons in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 as he scored 27 goals, 31 assists, 58 total goals in 73 games of 2009-2010 season and then 27 goals, 23 assists, 50 total points in 80 games of 2010-2011 season.
Before playing three and a half season with Calgary Flames, the 6-foot-2, 213 pounder played for Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL as he joined them 2005-2006 season and played three seasons with them scoring 75 points in 183 games.
Bourque has also had the honour of representing Canada in the 2010 junior world championship.
