Montreal Canadiens lose sixth straight to Florida Panthers 2-1 -NHL Match Update
Montreal continued to face a tough time as the Canadiens lost their sixth straight matchup of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season after a, 2-1, defeat by the Florida Panthers, who have now won their second straight, on Monday night,
October 24, at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Since the season kicked off, Montreal Canadiens have managed to win only a single contest against the struggling Winnipeg Jets in their second matchup after an opening loss to Toronto Maple Leafs. Currently, Montreal stands at number 15 of the Eastern Conference
with four points and a 1-5-2 record.
"We're not happy, that's for sure", said Montreal Canadiens centre Tomas Plekanec. "We have to be better. Our group has more, and we know that. We just have to bring it".
Florida goalie, Jacob Markstrom, was the key to their victory on Monday against Montreal as the 21-year-old rookie from Gavle, Sweden, faced 10 extra shots on his net as compared to his counterpart, Peter Budaj, but still amazingly blocked 40 of 41 Canadien
attempts.
Scottie Upshall, Florida Panther veteran left winger, scored the game-winner, breaking the 1-1 first period tie which lasted till he decided enough was enough, regarded Markstrom’s perform as essential to them winning.
"For a young guy, it's tough to come into a building like this to start after your first win", Upshall said. "He played unreal in the third period last game for us and to follow it up tonight with save after save, especially late in the game, too. This crowd
can be very intimidating but he definitely held himself very well and he was a big part of our victory tonight".
Erik Cole had taken opportunity of their first power play chance early into the first period with Florida’s Tomas Kopecky being penalised for tripping with a minor.
Tomas Fleischmann scored the equaliser at the 15:59 mark on a Montreal penalty, knowing little that it would be crucial seeing how the game progressed.
The Montreal line-up has gotten off to its worst start in franchise history and hope to turn that around when they face-off against Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday, while Florida Panthers continue their road trip against Ottawa Senators on Thursday.
