Montreal Canadiens notch up a 2-0 home win against New York Rangers

The second game of Saturday was played at the Centre Bell Arena, home of the Montreal Canadiens. The match saw the home team play host to the New York Rangers as part of the 783rd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series.
The match was very entertaining as both teams were evenly matched during the first two periods. Canadiens took the lead with a goal in the dying stages of the second period. The final period was totally dominated by the Rangers but Canadiens scored once
again to win the match 2-0 in the end.The star of the game was Corey Price, goal keeper of Montreal Canadiens as he made 35 saves in the game and kept the clean sheet.
Both of these teams are very strong on the offence and any mistake in defence could see either of the pay dearly. This is the reason that there was a slow start to the game. There were the occasional chances at the start but none of them could be categorized
as potentially goal scoring chances. The period saw both teams getting stronger with the passage of time.
Chances started to increase and they started to come near the goals. Both teams had the share of the chances and could have taken the lead but the goal keepers did an excellent job with the support of the defence. Passing and shooting were both top-class
during the period. The only thing that the period lacked was goals.
The period ended without any goals with the scores deadlocked on 0-0 with Canadiens making 12 goal attempts while the Rangers made 10 goal attempts.
New York Rangers made a great start to the second period which saw them coming up with strong passing and shooting on goal. They caught the Canadiens defence off guard at times but again failed to convert the chances into goals.
It didn’t take long as with the backing on the large home crowd, the Canadiens fought their way back into the back with strong attacks. They came up shots every now and then and from everywhere on the pitch.
Unlikely the Rangers in this period, they finally managed to score through Scott Gomez in the 18th minute from a strong flick shot. The home team continued to attack after taking the lead but the score didn’t change. Montreal Canadiens led 1-0
going into the break as they made 11 goal attempts in the period while New York Rangers made 6 goal attempts.
The final period saw the Rangers start on a high. They attacked right from the beginning and it looked as if they would score given the amount and easy chances they got. They caught the home team’s defence napping on several occasions but failed to level
the scores.
Canadiens preferred staying back and defending which allowed the Rangers attack very now and then.
However, the home team sealed the match scoring in the final minute of the period. The goal was scored by Tomas Plekanec on a counter attack. The match ended with the Canadiens winning 2-0. During the final 20 minutes of play, Montreal Canadiens made 6 goal
attempts while New York Rangers made 19 goal attempts but still couldn’t score.
