Montreal Canadiens’ offence blasts Detroit Red Wings 7-2 -NHL Update
Over 21,000 fans in the sold-out Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, did not have a second to sit on their seats as the Montreal Canadiens’ offence blasted the bewildered Detroit Red Wings by a huge, 7-2, difference on Wednesday night, January 25, 2012.
Detroit was coming into the contest looking to dominate and grab their eighth straight victory after one of their longest winning streaks of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, but were definitely amazed at a rowdy Montreal club, sending
them back to square one.
The Red Wings coach, Mike Babcock, certainly felt that his team just was not at all a NHL team after witnessing a horrific performance.
"I'm not going to watch any video of this, at all", coach, Babcock said. "I'm going to have a drink. Actually, it is what I'm going to do".
Montreal came out strong right in the opening period as Rene Bourque triggered a shooting spree which followed with rookie defenseman, Alexei Emelin’s first career goal in the major league, David Desharnais and Tomas Plekanec to cap off a four-goal 20 minute
phase.
The first period was not a fluke in any sense as Detroit was still underestimated the Montreal team, but the Canadiens were prepared for round-two of the attacking phase with Max Pacioretty potting his 17th of the season and David Desharnais finalising
the scoring at 4:18 on a power play opportunity as Jonathan Ericsson was on the benches for tripping.
For Montreal, January has been a busy month and getting a few days will be something that they will find welcoming.
"It's definitely nice to go into the break on a high note and maybe dwell on it for a couple of days because we haven't a whole lot of good to dwell on this year", said Montreal goalie, Carey Price, who will be playing in the 2012 NHL All-Star game for the
third time straight. "I think we can sit on that for a little while, but when we come back, we know that we've got to get back to work".
Jiri Hudler added two straight for Detroit but as Erik Cole killed off the comeback momentum once again, Montreal took a much deserved and easy win.
Montreal as a team, will be playing their next matchup against Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, January 31, as is the same with Detroit when they face-off against Calgary Flames.
