Montreal Canadiens overcome Boston Bruins 3-2 in O.T.
Max Pacioretty scored four minutes into overtime to help the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Boston Bruins on Saturday.
Both teams started the game in an attacking frame of mind. Chances came regularly for the teams, as they put together some slick attacking moves. They managed to create a decent number of goal-scoring opportunities, but a combination of poor finishing and
good defending denied them a lead.
The period moved on with both teams moving swiftly creating chances along the way, but no goals were scored during the 20 minutes of play. The period ended with the scores level at 0-0. The Montreal Canadiens made 12 goal attempts, while the Boston Bruins
made 11 goal attempts.
After a slow start to the second period, the Boston Bruins started to respond to the attacks of the Montreal Canadiens. They combined very well and took the lead with a brilliant goal scored by Patrice Bergeron from a flick shot in the fifth minute.
Boston kept on piling the pressure despite being in the lead. Their positive approach to the game saw the away side scoring to double their lead. Patrice Bergeron was once again the goal scorer in the 13th minute.
The period saw the Montreal Canadiens making goal attempts too, but they couldn’t find the back of the net. The period ended with the Boston Bruins leading 2-0. Boston made 10 goal attempts in the period, while the Montreal Canadiens had 11 goal attempts.
The final period was completely dominated by the home team, after a few early attacks made by the Boston Bruins. Buoyed by the home support, the Candiens bagged two goals in quick succession to take the match into overtime. The first goal was scored by Scott
Gomez in the 18th minute, while the second was scored by Brain Gionta from a simple tip in shot in the final minute.
With the scores level at 2-2, the Montreal Canadiens scored through Max Pacioretty in the fourth minute to win the match 3-2.
