Montreal Canadiens play against the odds to win Game 1 opposite Boston Bruins
The Eastern Conference quarter-finals saw another series kick off this Thursday, as Boston Bruins played host to the Montreal Canadiens at the TD Garden, which was won 2-0 by the guests. This was the first game of one of the most anticipated series as part of the first round in the playoffs, and as expected, touched the highest level in terms of physical play and entertainment.
The match started with the Canadiens throwing down the hammer right from the start, which consequently gave them an early lead. The period witnessed both teams making occasional shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the net. The second period began with the Canadiens making a few shots on goal, but it was the Bruins who were on top as they piled up several shots on goal. Unfortunately, there were no goals in this period. The Canadiens, nonetheless, did the job in the final period, which was defence dominated and saw them scoring and winning 2-0 in the end. Carey Price, goal keeper of the Canadiens was named the star of the game, as he contributed 31 saves during his shutout performance.
The Canadiens charged as soon as the game began looking to score as early as possible. The Bruins, on the other hand, proceeded slowly and subsequently suffered, as the Canadiens with their strong plays scored to get into the lead.
The goal was scored by Brian Gionta from a quick fired and well placed shot in the third minute. Both teams improved as the game progressed and managed to create quite a few chances for themselves. However, there were no further goals as the period ended, with Canadiens leading 1-0 and both teams attempting eight shots on goal during the period.
The second 20 minutes of play started off with the Canadiens bagging a few shots on goal that gave them a definite edge. The Bruins totally dominated the game in terms of possession, passing, offence, and defence, but lacked in scoring.
The numerous shots on goal by the Bruins were unable to find the back of the net till the very end, resulting in the period ending goal-less. The Canadiens still led 1-0 going into the break making six shots on goal, while the Bruins made 18 shots on goal.
The defence of both teams was on top of their game in the final period as they restricted the opposing offence to almost nothing. The Canadiens, nonetheless, scored through Gionta once again from a quick fired shot to double the lead in the 17th minute.
Both teams were pretty much even in terms of shots on goal during the period but it was the Canadiens who won 2-0 in the end.
