Montreal Canadiens plays host to Atlanta Thrashers in the fourth and final meeting between the two
Montreal Canadiens is all geared up for its encounter with Atlanta Thrashers this Tuesday that will take place at the Center Bell Arena. This will be the fourth and final encounter between the two teams during the course of the season.
Out of the three times they have been up against each other, Thrashers won the first two, 3-0 and 4-3, respectively, while Canadiens managed to win its last and most recent meeting 3-1 with James Wisniewski scoring the winning goal of the game.
Thrashers in a position where it can’t afford to lose games and need to win each of its remaining games if it wants to see itself appearing in the playoffs.
It has a very good opportunity against Canadiens that is currently struggling. Though it is at sixth position in the Eastern Conference, it is only two points ahead of the eight placed Buffalo Sabres.
Thrashers had a good first half of the season which has kept it in the running for the playoffs as its performance in the second half has been all but satisfactory. It is nine points out of the playoff picture with only seven games left to play in the regular
season.
The game against Canadiens will be very crucial for Thrashers as it will determine its future for spring. It has managed to come up with some decent results lately despite the poor run in the second half of the season. Thrashers has shown its strong offence
with wins in three out of its last five games.
Thrashers will be facing teams above it and in the playoff cut which gives it a chance of making its way into the cut. Along with this comes the task of beating these teams who are among some of the best like Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins.
Thrashers has played 75 games during the course of the season so far out of which it has won 32 games in regulation time and 12 games in overtime to score a total of 76 points.
On the other hand, Canadiens has made 76 appearances during the season so far out of which it has won 40 games in regulation time and seven games in overtime to score a total of 87 points.
Canadiens was at one stage contenting for the top spots with Bruins but a drop in its form has pushed it down the standings.
It is in the sixth position in the East and if it doesn’t put the foot on the gas pedal, it might slip down even further as it is only two points ahead of eighth placed Buffalo Sabres.
Canadiens displayed some dominating ice hockey in its last game against Minnesota Wild which saw it winning the game by 8-1 with P.K Subban scoring a hat-trick.
