Montreal Canadiens plays host to Washington Capitals in the third of their four meetings this season
Montreal Canadiens will be playing host to Washington Capitals this Tuesday.
This will be the third time these two meet out of the four scheduled meetings due to take place during the course of the season.
Out of the two games that have already taken place between the two teams, each team has won a game apiece.
Capitals won the first game comfortably by 3-0 while Canadiens managed to win the second game which was a tight game and saw them winning 3-2 after a shootout.
Capitals have been very inconsistent during the course of the season but it might not be their fault.
Last season they were top of the Conference but saw them shockingly exiting in the first round in the playoffs.
However, they have been able to battle their way back into the season as they have won eight straight games and are climbing up the Conference standings.
Capitals will be starting a six games road trip as they face the Canadiens tomorrow.
Capitals came up with a dominating performance this past Sunday as they faced the defending champions, Chicago Blackhawks.
Capitals won the game by 4-3 after overtime but this by no means told the complete side of the story. Capitals totally dominated at some stages of the period not only in the offence, but also the defence.
Though they had one of the men knocked out, still they managed to move on and scored goals regularly to win the game 4-3 after overtime.
This resulted in Capitals winning their eighth straight game which saw them also piling up their longest winning streak during the season so far.
GoalKeeper Braden Holtby has been outstanding as he has been part of four regulation time wins during which he maintains 1.05 goals against percentage, save percentage of 0.965 and coming up with two clean sheet performances.
Capitals have played 70 games during the season so far out of which they have won 40 games in regulation time and 10 games in overtime to score 90 points.
Canadiens, on the other hand, have played 69 games out of which they have won 38 games in regulation time and seven games in overtime to score a total of 83 points.
Canadiens aren’t far behind as they too have piled up some decent results. They have won six of their last seven games.
They have come up with over 3 goals per game average which is alarming for any team that faces them.
The main source of offence comes from Mike Cammalleri who has scored three points in the last three games and Tomas Plekanec who has scored four points in the last four games.
