Montreal Canadiens reportedly offer P.K. Subban two-year contract -NHL Update
Everyone knows that Montreal Canadiens are in a deadlock with one of their best young defenseman’s, P.K. Subban, after the defender’s three-year contract came to an end following the conclusion of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
His three-year, entry-level contract was worth a total of $2.625 million and now, Montreal Canadiens have reportedly offered the 23-year-old a two-year deal but both sides are yet to make an official announcement.
Subban’s agent, Mark Guy, was talking with TVA Sports and did not hint at any deal being signed between the two anytime soon.
"I don't see anything being done in the short term," agent Mark Guy said Wednesday, August 1, 2012. "These deals are difficult and take time.”
Guy went on to say that negotiations are going on between the two sides and a deal will eventually be reached but could not confirm anything more than that.
While Montreal Canadiens are looking to sign him to a two-year deal, Subban himself wants something longer in duration. Right now, Subban is the only unsigned player of the Montreal Canadiens roster at the moment and has not showed any signs of relocating
anywhere else.
Subban was drafted as the 43rd overall player during round-two of the 2007 NHL entry draft by Montreal Canadiens. The native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, has played a total of 160 games up until now and has 76 points (21 goals, 55 assists) along
with 245 minutes.
The past two seasons have definitely been a breakthrough for him as he played just two games in his first while spending a majority of the time with American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate team, Hamilton Bulldogs.
One thing is for sure, P.K. Subban is looking for a major raise and much, much more than his current contract. Dennis Wideman and Mike Green are some examples of defensemen getting huge contracts.
Some analysts are saying that he should settle for less now and demand more later on since a long term deal could bind him down with a team that may continue struggling for seasons come.
Updates on P.K. Subban should be expected in the upcoming days.
