Montreal Canadiens sign 2010 draft pick Jarred Tinordi to entry-level contract -NHL News Update
Montreal Canadiens might not have played their 2010 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft pick, Jarred Tinordi, in any regular season matchups as of yet, but have decided to finally sign on the young defenseman to a three-year, entry-level contract, the
team announced on Wednesday, November 2, 2011.
The financial aspects of the entry-level deal were not made official by the Montreal franchise after Canadiens general manager, Pierre Gauthier, announced the contract, but according to estimates, the three-year agreement is reported to be worth around $3
million, along with a special signing bonus as well.
Tinordi was in London, Ontario, Canada, when the two stakeholders reached an agreement, and according to him, it was about time the team signed him on.
“It seemed like the right time to get a deal done”, Tinordi said by phone after the media learned about the signing. “We started talking about a week ago and I’m happy to get a deal”.
The 19-year-old defender from Millersville, Maryland, United States, was drafted as the 22nd overall pick by the Canadiens and with a 6-foot-6, 205 pound frame, Montreal hopes on using the powerful defender soon in their upcoming matchups.
During the training camp earlier in September, Tinordi sustained an eye injury which disallowed him from playing in upcoming matchups. According to him, he is nearly ready to make a comeback and hopes to participate in his first regular season contest soon.
“I got hurt six games in and the eye was swollen, but it’s better now and I’ll be back on the weekend”, Tinordi said.
Playing with one of the top teams in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Tinordi, had a great season with the London Knights during 2010-2011. He potted 14 points (1 goal, 13 assists), but something to truly brag about, were his 140 penalty minutes, which were
the teams highest.
“That’s mostly because we have such a good team”, Tinordi said.
It is still not sure whether the young defender will be playing this season with the Canadiens or not, but upcoming days will decide if Montreal calls him in for an opportunity in the major league.
