Montreal Canadiens signs free agent Brock Trotter to one-year, two-way contract –NHL offseason Update
Montreal Canadiens signed left winger, Brock Trotter, to a one-year, two-way deal,  late night on Monday, as the process of signing various free agents continues even on the fourth day of the 2011 National Hockey League's (NHL) free agency.
Trotter, a 24-year-old player from Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, did not enter the NHL through the entry draft, but is rather recalled from Montreal’s farm club in the American Hockey League (AHL), Hamilton Bulldogs.
He played in his first two games in the NHL during the 2009-2010 season with Montreal in which he was unable to register a single point.
At the end of the 2009-2010 season, Trotter finished off his third consecutive season with Hamilton Bulldogs, since starting in 2007.
In 2009-2010 season, Trotter led Bulldogs in goals by scoring 77 points with 36 goals and 41 assists in a total of 75 games.
Trotter played with Riga club of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) last season in which he potter nine goals and 17 assists in 49 games played.
The financial details of the free agent forward's contract with Montreal have not yet been disclosed.
Born on January 16, 1987, Trotter officially started his hockey career with Dauphin Kings of the Major Junior Hockey League during the 2003-2004 season in which he registered 65 points, 32 goals and 33 assists, in 63 games.
Next season he moved on to Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League and put up a 58-point performance  with 20 goals and 38 assists in 60 games.
He was off to the University of Denver for three consecutive seasons from 2005-2008 in which he registered a total of 76 points, 32 goals and 44 assists, throughout until joining Hamilton Bulldogs and eventually being picked up by major league team, Montreal
Canadiens.
Montreal might not use him for much in the upcoming season, since the contract is also a two-way deal, which means it will most probably keep him in its AHL affiliate team and use Trotter for recall purposes.
If he shows enough performance to become a key player for the Canadian club, the franchise might consider bringing him on full time when his contract expires.
