Montreal Canadiens wins 3-2 against the League Leaders, Vancouver Canucks
The final and important game of Tuesday was the league leaders Vancouver Canucks playing host to the Montreal Canadiens at the Roger Arena. A win for both teams was very important with the Canadiens looking to cement their position in the league while the
Canucks looked to keep the lead in the league.
A strong offensive started was made by both teams with the Canadiens leading by two goals at the end of the first period. Though the Canucks scored twice during the remaining two periods but Canadiens also scored once. This resulted in the Canadiens winning
the game 3-2 in the end. Carey Price, goal keeper of the Canadiens was named the star of the game as he made 37 saves during the course of the period.
Shots on goal were the main essence of the first period with both teams on the attacks right from the start to the proceedings. The Canadiens were quick out of the blocks and they displayed some sharp ice hockey early.
Not only this, but the Canadiens were able to capitalize from the strong start and scored a couple of goals. The first goal of the game was scored by the Canadiens in the 8th minute that put them in the lead. The goal was scored by David Desharnais
from a superb backhand shot.
The Canadiens continued to pile pressure on the opposing defence which was also attacking. Resultantly, the Canadiens scored once again in the next minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by Brian Gionta from another brilliant backhand shot.
The period after this saw both teams attacking every now and then. Superb pieces of play were developed by both teams by no further goals were scored. The period ended with the Canadiens leading 2-0 in the end. During the course of the period, the Canucks
made 12 goal attempts while the Canadiens made 16 goal attempts.
The second period of the game saw the Canucks dominate the period. The league leaders scored in the 4th minute to trail by a single goal. The goal was scored by Henrik Sedin during power play.
The Canucks were dominating the game with their offence and defence but a defensive lapse in the 11th minute saw the Canadiens scoring once again through Andrei Kostitsyn to regain two goals lead to their advantage.
The Canucks kept on piling shots after shots but unfortunately they couldn’t score any further goals as the period ended with the Canadiens leading 3-1. The Canadiens made 4 goal attempts in the period while the Canucks made 14 goal attempts in the final
period.
The final period of the game saw the Canucks making a great started once again and they scored in the second minute to cut the lead to just one goal. The goal was scored by Mikael Samuelsson during power play from a powerful strike.
The goal was scored through a brilliant shot from long range. The period progressed with the Canucks coming up with shots on goal every now and then. But no further goals were scored and the Canadiens won the game 3-2 in the end.
The final period saw the Canucks making 13 goal attempts while the Canadiens made just 5 goal attempts.
