Montreal Canadiens wins 3-2 against the Tampa Bay Lightning after a shootout

The sixth placed team in the Eastern Conference, Montreal Canadiens, played host to the fifth placed team in Tampa Bay Lightning at the Center Bell Arena this past Thursday.
The game was important for both teams as they looked to score important points and keep ahead of the tight battle with eight teams contesting for two spots.
The game started brilliantly with both teams attacking right from the word go. However, things slowed down in the middle but caught pace once again.
Unfortunately none of the shots found the back of the net.
The second period started off with Canadiens exploding and scoring in the very first minute to get into the lead. Lightning levelled the scores before the period ended.
The final period saw both teams scoring a goal apiece which resulted in the scores level on 2-2 at the end of the period.
No goals were scored in the overtime so the game went into shootout from where Canadiens emerged as 3-2 winners of the game.
There were shots on goal right from the start as the home team backed by the home crowd came up with some brilliant pieces of play. There were several goal scoring chances for them but they failed to convert the chances into goals.
Canadiens started to create chances for themselves but they weren’t able to find the back of the net too. The period saw some brilliant play construction but still the scores were 0-0 at the end of the period. During the period, Canadiens made 12 shots on
goal while Lightning made 9 shots on goal.
The second period kicked off with both teams continuing to pile pressure on the opposing team and it was Lightning who proved to be the more productive team and scored in the very first minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Teddy Purcell from
a decent strike during power play.
Canadiens managed to bounce back with some decent plays. Canadiens levelled the scored with a goal in the 6th minute which was scored by Andrei Kostitsyn from a brilliant tip in shot. There were several more shots but the score line didn’t change
at the end with both teams level on 1-1. During the period, Canadiens made 9 shots on goal while Lightning made 11 shots on goal.
The final period saw Lightning stronger of the two teams offensively. However, it was Canadiens who scored in the fourth minute through Brian Gionta from a backhand shot to get into the lead. It didn’t long as Lightning levelled the scores with Simon Gagne
scoring from a tip in shot in the 10th minute.
The period ended with the scores level on 2-2 with Canadiens making six shots on goal during the period while Lightning made 14 shots on goal. The game went into overtime but no goals were scored and the game went into shootout from where Lightning emerged
as 3-2 winners of the game.
