Montreal Juniors roll past Val D’or Foreurs
The Montreal Juniors collected their third win of the season over the Val D’or Foreurs on Saturday. The Juniors were clearly the better team at home in Verdun Auditorium, running away with a 6-2 victory.
The Juniors were in form at both ends of the ice, getting strong offence and collecting 48 shots, while holding their opponents to just 12 attempts on goal.
Montreal asserted their dominance over the visitors early in the first period, as Michael Clarke potted one just before the seven-minute mark. Xavier Ouellet and assistant captain Charles-Olivier Roussel managed to collect assists on the goal.
Montreal wasted no time getting back on the board, scoring less than a minute later, courtesy of Janos Hari. The goal gave the home side a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Val D’or’s Alex Filiatrault was called for handling the puck six minutes in to the second period and the Juniors took advantage. On the power play Trevor Parkes slotted home his team’s third goal of the game.
The two teams battled hard throughout the rest of the second, with a fight between Monteal’s Eliezer Sherbatov and the Foreurs’ Olivier Archambault at the very end of the period.
The late scrap seemed to further embolden the home side as they came out of the break and counted their fourth goal of the game, from defenseman Francis Best only 30 seconds into the third period.
The Foreurs were finally able to get on the board, thanks to a marker on the power play from Archambault at the five-minute mark.
The Juniors countered with a power play marker of their own only two minutes later. Philippe Lefebvre managed to put it home with help from Roussel and Jeremy Gouchie.
Montreal continued to press and Hari found the back of the net for the second time, once again getting help from Ouellet.
The visitors would add their second goal of the game less than a minute later, as Marc-Alain Begin power one past Etienne Marcoux. However, it would not be enough as Montreal cruised past an inept Val D’or side.
The win sends the Juniors to 3-1-2, having now earned eight points on the season. Montreal sits second in the West Division, ahead of the Shawinigan Cataractes by only a point.
Meanwhile the Foreurs continue to struggle with consistency and fall to 3-3 with six points on the season.
The Juniors will next see the Chicoutimi Sagueneens at home on 1 October.
