Montreal Wheelchair World Cup showcases rising talent - Fencing news
An exciting weekend saw the Montreal Wheelchair Fencing World Cup from April 29 to May 3, held at the Complexe Sportif Claude-Robillard, Montreal, Canada. Défi sportif AlterGo organised the Wheelchair World Cup, which certainly lived up to its’ expectations.
Fencers were divided into A, B and C categories, according to their disabilities. Competition in all kinds of weapon categories were conducted in A and B class. Only Foil and Epee competitions were conducted in C categories. Following are the details for
medal winners in the World Cup.
Women’s Epee Category A:
Jing Rong from China won the gold medal and Chui Yee Yu from Honk Kong secured silver. Vera Juhasz from Hungary and Baili Wu from China won the bronze medal.
Women’s Epee Category B:
German, Simone Briese-Baetke took gold, while Yui Chong Chan from Honk Kong won silver and Hungarian Gyongy Dani, along with Chinese Fang Yao secured the bronze medal victory.
Women’s Foil Category A:
Chinese Jing Rong and Hong Kong’s Chui Yee Yu dominated the Foil category as well, winning gold and silver medals, respectively. Chinese Jing Bian and Baili Wu secured the bronze medals.
Women’s Foil Category B:
Category B’s Epee medal winners, Baetke, Yui, Dani and Fang repeated their act to secure the same medal victories, in Epee competition.
Women’s Sabre Combined Category A &B:
Chinese Bian Jing and Xu Feng Zou captured gold and silver medals, respectively, while Russian fencers, Albina Kuramshina and Irina Vidrashko won the bronze medals.
Men’s Epee Category A:
Polish, Dariusz Pender won gold and French, Robert Citerne took the silver medal. Italian, Matteo Betti and French, Romanin Noble grabbed the bronze medals.
Men’s Epee Category B:
French, Marc Andre Cratere and Alain Latreche secured the gold and silver medals. Brazilian, Jovane Juissoni and Hong Kong’s Chik Sum Tam, played well to win the bronze medals.
Men’s Foil Category A:
Hong Kong’s Wing Kin Chan was ranked first, after his gold medal victory. French, Moez El Assine was placed second while Italian, Matteo Betti and Ludovic Lemoine finished third and fourth, respectively, with bronze medals.
Men’s Foil Category B:
Russian, Marat Yusupov won the gold medal while French, Laurent Francois took silver. France went home with medals in this category, as David Doisy and Maxime Valet captured the bronze medals.
Men’s Saber Category A:
French fencers dominated proceedings in this category, as the squad captured all the medals. Moez El Assine secured gold while Romanin Noble took silver. Robert Citerne and Ludovis Lemoine captured the bronze medals.
Men’s Saber Category B:
Italian, Alessio Sarri won the gold medal. French, Laurent Francois could not win the final and had to be content with silver. Canadian, Pierre Mainville and Polish, Grzegorz Pluta lost the semi- finals and were awarded with bronze medals.
