Montreal to Halifax driving?

The route fastest route i get from Mapquest is up through quebec, then NB, then NS, but ive heard from a few people that it is faster to go through Maine and take highway 1 in NB

Try this route.  It's somewhat shorter in kilometer, but will take longer in time since it relies more on local roads.

Previous answerer's route is excellent and probably the best/fastest route. Also, take into consideration that gasoline is MUCH cheaper in the States so you'll be saving money there as well.  Finally, try to time your border crossings so that they're at off-peak times (very early in the morning or very late at night) to speed your way through.

Two final notes:  

1) make sure to get with your insurance provider to get paperwork that will prove that you're insured for travel in the USA (this paperwork WILL be checked at the border); and,

2) be sure to have your Canadian driver's license AND Canadian Birth Certificate or Certificate of Naturalization (or just your Canadian passport along with your driver's license) as these documents will also be examined at both border crossings.
