Montreal tourist questions?

I'll be visiting Montreal for the first time and have a few questions.

1) What is the best (non-taxi) way to get from the Montreal Airport to my hotel near the Champ-de-Mars metro station ?

2) Is there an unlimited metro/bus card that i can buy for unlimited travel on metro/bus for 3 days ?

3) What are the major tourist spots or streets in downtown. I like to walk around and explore the downtown on foot and in public transportation so could you tell me the names of the major squares or streets or areas ?

Thanks for all you help.

  1. I answered this question about airport to downtown last week:

    1) If taking public transit, your best best would be to take one of the buses (blue and white) that's very near the arrivals gate (ask any airport official there; they're very helpful). If I remember correctly, it's #201 or #211. This will take you to Lionel-Groulx métro station, and you can just ride to your stop. Alternatively, you could try to take the commuter train into downtown--it's faster than riding the bus--but your timing would have to be just right; the bus is more frequent.

    2) A tourist card is $17 for 3 days, or $9 for 1 day.

    Other fares:

    CAM hebdo (Weekly Pass)  $19.25

    Six-ticket strip $12.00

    Cash fare  $2.75

    3) Major tourist spots:

    > Old Montreal (in your Champ-de-Mars area

    > Rue Ste. Catherine

    > Boulevard St. Laurent

    > Rue St. Denis

    > Sherbrooke St.

    > Crescent St.

And a good hike would be the mountain, Mount Royal.

    HTH, and have fun!
