Montreux Volley Masters reaches semi-final stage – Volleyball News
The 27th edition of the Montreux Volley Masters is underway in Swiss town. The tournament was kicked off on Tuesday, June 7 with eight women’s teams from different countries of the world.
The first preliminary round of the tournament was full of thrill and action as teams showed their thirst for better status. At the end of the third day, four teams with better points settle for the semi-finals. The following teams qualified for the semis

China Japan United States Cuba
The semi-final qualifying matches were held on Thursday, June 9. China and Peru played a cracking four set match, where defending champions China stole the show. U.S. team overpowered Germany, while Japan proved to be too strong for Netherlands. In the last
match of the day, Caribbean ladies from Cuba advanced to the semis without playing on Thursday.
China vs. Peru 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-16, 25-15)
Defending champion of the tournament, China took on Peruvian team in the first match of the day. The match started out in a nice, easy and relaxed mode. Both teams actively participated in the throwing long jump-serves and powerful shots. Karla Ortiz of
Peru was quite active on the net. She chipped in many important points for her team. Moreover, Ulissa Zamudio Ore put her magic in the game. However, China resisted in full force and stop them right away. China secured first set with 6-point lead.
Peruvian side hit back strongly in second set and sought revenge from China. They managed to hit the equalizer in second set. Anyhow, Chinese Linlin Fan and Ruoqi h*i formed a great combination and stormed opponents’ half with ground breaking shots. They
put Chine once again in lead by winning third set. Furthermore, Chinese hitters continued with success in fourth set and put an end to the Peruvian strike. China claimed victory at the loss of one set.
USA vs. Germany 3-2 (25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 15-25, 16-14)
The second fixture of the day brought American and German teams in the court. USA had posted a great victory over Peru in the previous match and they had great energy in the game. U.S. team started things off in opening set with good offensive attack.
The German girls dropped first set of the match but entered second set with an ambition of victory. They performed better and took revenge by winning second set. Third set of the game was full of suspense as uncertainty prevailed until the ending moments.
Americans made a difference with 2-point lead and claimed third set.
German team followed a different approach in fourth set and dominated the resilient rivals. An interesting twist came in the game when Germany tied the score at 2-2. The 15-point golden set of the match was a real fight between two teams. Long rallies were
exchanged and each player actively participated. Eventually, victory graced American team as they hit the finish line by sending 16-14 on board.
Japan vs. Netherlands 3-2 (20-25, 27-29, 25-18, 25-17, 16-14)
In the final match of the day, Japanese team played with great potential. Japan put up an epic fight but Dutch proved to be hard-stopper for them. The Dutch players took advantage of their physique and good heights. They claimed opening set of the game and
appeared too strong for competitors.
However, Japanese girls came up with a great strategy in second set. After a point-to-point battle, Japan won the second set. Ironically enough, the mood the game didn’t change and Netherland once again went up after capturing third set.
The seesaw battle continued and Japan equalized the score by winning following set. Final set provided an equal opportunity to both team but Japan earned the advantage. They played well and secured fifth set with 2-point margin.
