Monty Panesar allowed to participate in 2013 IPL auction – Cricket News Update
Left-arm spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 late last year, has been cleared by his county side Sussex to take part in next month’s players auction of the lucrative Indian Premier League.
Panesar is the third English player who has been cleared by the ECB and the respective county side to participate in this year’s IPL auction. The other two English players to appear in the players auction are his Sussex teammate Matt Prior and Essex’s batting all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RS-Bopara-c2373.
Both Panesar and Bopara had appeared in the IPL auction before but failed to attract any takers. However, the former’s success on Indian soil in the recent Test series, where he picked up 17 wickets in three matches, could boost his chances of being bought by an IPL franchise this time around.
Sussex county’s head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Andrew-Robinson-c74518 admitted that allowing their ace spinner to miss the start of the 2013 season could cost them the chance of winning the county championship.
"It's not ideal for us," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robinson-c86348 told ESPNcricinfo. "It could cost us the chance of winning the County Championship, but we understand that it's a great opportunity for the players."
"It's a bit of a myth that players go for the money. Such is the compensation they have to pay to their counties that, unless they go for over $400,000, they probably aren't making a lot. Certainly in the case of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Dermott-Monteith-c65601, he just wants to improve as a limited-overs cricketer and we respect that," added the Sussex head coach.
Even if bought by some IPL franchise, the off-spinner may not play the whole IPL season, commencing in Kolkata on April 3, 2013. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 between May 16 and June 5 and if picked in the national squad, Panesar would have to return home in time to appear in the final round of Championship matches, ahead of the first Test against the Black Caps.
Whilst http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826 have stopped their players from participating in February’s players auction.
