Question:

Monty Python's Awesome Animation?

I was just wondering how the makers of the movies Monty Python and the Holy Grail and The Meaning of Life animated those little parts in every movie. I'm thinking it's paper and stop motion but I really like it and I've always wanted to know for sure.

  1. Terry Gilliam's style of animation is indeed primarily paper (often images lifted from news articles, history books and famous art work) and stop motion. It's officially called "collage stop motion" and uses paper in a collage style to give depth and texture. Another good example of "collage stop motion" is  the "Eleanor Rigby" segment of The Beatles "Yellow Submarine" film. in fact, Mr Gilliam and all of "The Pythons" have often cited The Beatles as an influence.

  2. I'm not sure, but you your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries.  (No offense, just my favorite Python line :) - Take care!
