Monty Waterbury Cup Player Ratings: White Birch vs. Equuleus Semi-Finals
White Birch shocked Equuleus 11-10 in the semi-final match of the 2011 Monty Waterbury Polo Club at the Bridgehampton Polo Club in California. The two teams were looking to conclude the event on a high note and wanted a berth in the gold-medal encounter.
Both White Birch and Equuleus were hoping to go home with the title of the tournament.
The game started with both teams going at it, conversely with White Birch capitalising on crucial moments during the six chukkas. On the other side, there really wasn’t much that Equuleus could do to make a comeback into the fixture. Here are the player
ratings of the two teams.
White Birch
Fred Mannix: 08/10
Without a doubt, Mannix was the best player of the fixture. The White Birch Number one weaved his way through superb stick work and penalty conversion. It was a dazzling performance from him who revelled in his enhanced license to score goals. Scoring seven,
he was the highest point-scorer of the match who played major role in the triumph.
Mariano Aguerre: 7.5/10
Aguerre nearly put his foursome into a surprise advantage when took part in the scoring through field and penalty shots. He displayed an impressive stick-work to keep back the leading streak of White Birch. Playing at the number two position, he was looking
a constant source of menace and created plenty of chances for his forward man. He did not show selfishness on any occasion and brought all the players into the action.
Peter Brant: 07/10
He looked assured throughout the six frames and accomplished the goals while picking the ball from centre-half of the field. He looked strong enough in all sections. He though scored once but delivered outstanding games on defence. Owing to hard work and
complemented show-off, he was reasonably well in the fixture.
Mariano Gracida: 5.5/10
Gracida had more desire and bigger soar than the Equuleus attackers as he could not deny the opponents in the early chukkas. Though, he could not get things going early on, he was not impressive at all.
Equuleus
Kris Kampsen: 7.5/10
Kampsen had an amazing start to the match with some dazzling scoring for his side. He looked razor-sharp throughout the play and rendered a fine game to compete in the match. However, they failed to do so by a difference of single goal and missed the chance
to fight in the gold medal game. In the list of point-scorers, he was standing at the second number with six impressive notches.
Mariano Obregon: 08/10
Obregon – the number two position player had his best game of the tournament particularly in the head of stick work and passing. He scored twice in the mega game, but created loads off opportunities for Kampsen. On the other side, he was energetic enough
to hold the opposite players with his lengthy rides and fine movement at horseback.
Mariano Gonzalez: 6.5/10
It was clear that the White Birch had not succeeded in their attempts when Gonzales held the ball. He was fast and furious on defence but also took part in the scoring with two goals. Overall his game was reasonable onto field and it was the luck that lost
them the match.
Joe diMenna: 4.4/10
It seemed that he was fettered almost completely by the White Birch strikers particularly Mannix. He did fail to show fruitful work on defence and on offence.
