Monty Williams says he may rest Eric Gordon for entire preseason – NBA News
The New Orleans Hornets are looking forward to a season filled with high expectations. The team drafted Anthony Davis with their number 1 draft pick this year and have also added some good pieces to the team in the offseason, making
them contenders for the playoffs this coming season. They have also been able to generate some buzz and excitement around the franchise, which has seen fans return to watch home games. However, the Hornets received the first bad news of the offseason when
their star point guard Eric Gordon was unable to take part in training camp due to soreness in his knee. The Knee has caused trouble for Gordon for the past one year, and the team was hopeful that he would be able to play a few preseason games to get himself
in the right rhythm before the start of the regular season.
However, after being unable to participate in the first five preseason games for the Hornets, Gordon is looking at the possibility of not returning for any of the preseason games and getting himself ready for the regular season.
Hornets head Coach Monty Williams does not want to take any risk with one of the most important players on the team, and is thinking about resting Gordon for the remainder of the preseason as well.
“Williams said Sunday that Gordon could miss the final three preseason games because he is not in appropriate conditioning due to the missed time caused by his sore knee. Williams also said there’s also a chance power forward Jason
Smith could miss the remainder of the preseason,” reported the “Times-Picayune”.
Gordon is one of the most important pieces of the Hornets roster for the upcoming season, and will account for 25 to 30 percent of their offence when he returns to the court. Hence, the Hornets are making the right decision by
playing safe with him and allowing him further time by resting him for the entire offseason. What matters is that Gordon returns as early as possible in the regular season because that is what counts.
“I don’t see them playing in the next couple of games, maybe not anymore in the preseason, It is not ideal, but it is the situation that we have. Eric got to get his condition up; that’s what he’s working on now,” added Hornets
coach Williams.
