Hi guys i really need your help

I have 2 rabbits and brother and a sister. the male has been neutered but the female hasnt. They have lived together since they were born and absolutly love each other. (they are 6 months old)

Before i got them i thought about the things i needed, saving money and putting off buying them until i knew i had more then enought money to keep them. I bought them the best i could afford, a lovely 5ft x 4ft x 4ft hutch, a 8ft square run and all the bits and bobs too keep them amused. They are fed on a all in one pellet and are put in the run everyday with out fail for around 8 hours so they have all the grass and room to run they'de like.

now for the problem. My female rabbit pickles was lovely when she was small but suddenly over the past couple of weeks she had become very aggressive. Attacking anyone who goes near or into the cage. I try to habd feed her treats and grass and talk to her to try and gain her trust but it doesnt seem to be working. she hisses and bits, scratches and runs around the hutch and it often seems like shes protecting branston (the male.)

I have kept the routine though and continue to put her in the run everyday even though it means catching her with a towel. once i have her she is fine and doesnt really make any aggressive advances and can be stroked and fussed within reason.

I just want her to be happy, i have given them everythind i think they'de want and im at my wits end thinking shes upset.

What could i do to improve her life or gain her trust back. Ive never beaten her shouted at her or anything. i absolutly love animals and it kills me to see her like this.

We are goin to have her neutured at some point but do u think it would make a difference to her behaviour? i am also going to buy them a new run and attach it too the old one making it double the size. they also get put down on a very large patio so they can have a really kick and run about.

sorry its long people

thank you to all who read and help i really need it!

  1. Getting her spayed will fix all these issues, and help keep her healthy for the rest of her life.

When I adopted my bun, she had just been spayed, and for the first week or so (while the hormones left her system) she was a little moody, but she quickly became a really sweet girl.

  2. Its not you thats causing this, its simply nature. As does and bucks get older they seem obsessed with mating. Your female is probobly a bit angry because she has a male who she wants to mate with but he has been neutered and is therefor not interested. The poor rabbit wants to mate and have a litter, so the male that wont mate is just making her more fustrated. Even if you seperate them the female will be moody, its just her natural instinct. You will have to get her spayed. Once you do, all your probolems will be solved. She will go back to being a happy little bunny :D good luck

  3. Aww cute names! You sound like a really dedicated rabbit owner! Getting Pickles spayed will definitely help her behaviour.. i'm aware that everyone has said that but oh well :) x

  4. Its def hormones. If you dont get her spayed she can get cancer and be agresive and have false preg.

  5. You need to get her spayed.

Short answer, I know, but it is that simple.

Unspayed females are more aggressive and territorial, but also have a higher chance of getting some cancers.
