Moohaajim to turn tables on Reckless Abandon in Vision.ae Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket
A lot of high profile runners have entered Newmarket’s Group 1, Vision.ae Middle Park Stakes this weekend, but the focus is entirely on Reckless Abandon and Moohaajim, who are heading the market with some good reasons.
There are plenty of remarkable aspects of this race. Interestingly, five of the last six winners of this big meeting had won either the Prix Morny or the Mill Reef Stakes. This figure is highly likely to go up, as this season’s victors, Reckless Abandon and Moohaajim, are all set to make an impact.
It will not be the first head-to-head clash between the pair. The two dashing colts earlier met in the Group 1, Darley Prix Morny at Deauville. Inexperience cost Moohaajim very badly, and he could only seize the fifth place behind the 6-4 favourite, Reckless Abandon.
The Marco Botti-trained did not lose confidence following an embarrassing defeat at the top level. He quickly got his act together, and demonstrated a fascinating show in last month’s Group 2, Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury.
On good to firm, the 5-2 favourite tracked the leaders brilliantly in the beginning. His hard work paid off, when he switched sharply left approaching the final furlong. Under Adam Kirby, he quickened to lead in the final 140 yards, and comfortably grabbed the first place by 1¾ lengths.
Owned by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, the 2-year-old will have to come up with an equally good effort to get the better of Clive Cox’s unbeaten charge, Reckless Abandon.
In his short career of four starts, the 2-year-old has won three graded events, including the latest Group 1, Darley Prix Morny. He has recently shown tendency to hang left, but an unbeaten record is enough to establish him as one of the best of his age.
Moohaajim, who was unfortunate in France, has a wonderful chance of taking revenge from Reckless Abandon. His latest comprehensive triumph at Newbury suggests that he will be able to turn the tables on his major opponent. An extra special effort is required tough. We wish the best of luck to all the participants.
