I am looking for a wakeboard/ski boat and i can across Moomba boats. It seems they are much cheaper than a Malabu or Ski Nautique, but is that quality of the boat suspect? I was looking to spend about 25K on a used boat and i and finding that i could get around a 2005 moomba or a 2000 malibu or nautique. Does anyone have any thoughts feeling concerns or words about moomba? What do you think would be a better choice newer cheap brand or older name brand?

Please help

  1. the best choice is to get a boat with low hours, I've seen Moomba's on the water, they look nice to me. Get a boat you like and never buy a boat with out taking it on the water first! if the seller doesn't want to take it on the water, there's probably a problem with it.

  2. I work in the marine trade in Muskoka, On.  We have quite a few moombas on the lakes.  I cant tell the difference in quality by looking.  The moomba has a different hull shape than a nautique, and, i believe a slightly thinner layer of gelcoat.  Nautiques have been around a long time, and have the rep, so you may be paying a premium for the name.  Malibu, in my opinion, is a poorly finished boat, so i have to wonder about their quality control.  Before buying anything used, spend the money and have the boat checked over buy a tech.

  3. I've also been looking at new a new wakeboard boat and have noticed that Moombas are significantly cheaper than Malibus or Air Nautiques. Having worked at a marina two summers in a row, I can't see why this would be so. Having driven most major brands of watersport boats, Moombas are virtually indistinguishable from the more expensive brands. The only noticeable differences are in the quality of the interiors. Nautiques are, in my opinion, unbeatable. The design is gorgeous and the materials are top notch. However, that's only applicable to brand new boats. A newer Moomba will have a much nicer interior than an early 2000's Nautique or Malibu. I say get a Malibu and enjoy it, there's nothing wrong with them, they're just good value!
